Color Scheme
You don’t want your dress to be the dark green splotch in a sea of blue. Shop to the overall aesthetics of the wedding. Of course there is still room for choice. As any interior designer will smugly tell you, there are countless shades of every color. If the color scheme leans towards pink, you can still decide between hot, orchid, fandango, or a thousand other varieties.
You’ve probably regulated the length of your daughters dresses throughout all of high school. On her wedding day, she’ll return the favor. Some weddings will allow for knee length dresses, while more formal affairs require gowns that touch the floor. The venue is a great indicator of how formal the event will be. If the ceremony is held in a place of worship, a more traditional dress is likely more appropriate. However, if the venue is a backyard barbecue, the dress can be a bit more casual. Traditionally, the mother of the bride chooses her gown first, which then informs what the mother of the groom will wear.
