Be wary of your credit: If you plan on putting lots of your wedding expenses on a credit card, be sure and choose the right card. If need be, open a new account where the cards offer a rewards program of some sort. You want to get the most out of your money. A good card can offer great shopping deals as well as airline miles, all of which will help with the overall cost if the wedding or even help with honeymoon costs. Just be sure not to go over the credit limit. Fees will cancel out the rewards.
Prepare for rejection: You should know that when it comes to wedding guests, the norm is that about 30 percent of the people you invite won’t actually attend. This of course depends on the location of the wedding as well as how many out-of-town guests you invite. Some people may just not be able to get the time away from work or simply can’t afford the travel expenses. Either way, don’t take it personally. You will still have a wonderful day.
Do your marriage license homework: This may seem like a simple task, but it is often one that couples overlook until right before the wedding. Make sure you know the hours of your county clerk’s office and how long it will take to obtain one. Another great idea is to make a few copies for trusted people to hang onto. You can never be too careful when it comes to the one thing that can prevent you from getting married at all.
Think about a kids policy: Some couples are fine with having children in and at their wedding and some are uncomfortable with the thought. So, you can have a child-friendly wedding or an a adults only wedding. Another option so that your friends and family members with kids won’t feel alienated is to hire a child care provider and have a designated area for the little ones to be safe while the parents enjoy the wedding.
Always have a cheat sheet on hand: It is a great idea to carry an emergency cheat sheet on your wedding day. Write down all your contacts on this sheet, including vendors. Keep in your purse in case of emergencies. For example, if the florist is late, you have the number ready to go to find out what is going on. It will make you feel more at ease.
