Many brides want to preserve their veil as they do their bridal gowns. After all, they are a huge part of your overall look, as well something could be super sentimental to some. Veils are often given as another bride’s “something old” or “something borrowed,” so you want to make sure it will remain as beautiful as the day you wore it. Below are some easy tips on how to do just that!
1. Assess the condition of your veil. Check for holes or tears–remember that these can be miniscule, so pay close attention. Tulle and lace are very delicate, but can be repaired by an expert seamstress–but be sure and find a reputable one!
2. Look for stains–these could be from food, drink, makeup, sweat, etc. If you see stains, it’s best to consult a professional for removal, and always avoid the dry cleaner!
3. Gently place your wedding veil in a non-buffed, acid-free box, or non-woven garment bag, separate from your wedding dress. Take note of the veil size/length to make sure the box is big enough so as to not cause too many wrinkles–some veils, like cathedral length may call for a large box.
4. Find the right paper for wrapping. Use a non-buffed, acid-free tissue paper, storage boxes and more are readily available at your local bridal boutiques or online. This kind of paper is widely available and very affordable.
5. Place sheets of the acid-free paper between the folds of your veil and wrap it in a clean cotton sheet or pillowcase. Never use plastic.
6. Store the preserved veil in a cool, dry, dark place–such as a closet or under a bed. The storage area should have a temperature that remains constant–not a basement or attic where it can get damp.
