Holly & Jackson

Holly and Jackson are a super fun couple from Vail, Colorado. They met in high school, where they were both active in the theater program. Married in August 2015, their wedding was full of whimsy and one of the most unique we have seen. Not many couples get inspiration for their big day from a Disney movie, right? Check out Holly and Jackson’s story, along with an array of gorgeous photos!

The proposal

Holly and Jackson both attended Cornell University. Jackson graduated a few years ahead of Holly, and he then moved to San Francisco for work. Holly recalls, “During spring finals my senior year, I had planned to have a picnic with my girlfriends in the school’s plantation gardens. That morning, Jackson told me he was going out golfing with a few co-workers and wouldn’t be reachable. Little did I know that he was actually flying across the country to propose. He had orchestrated the whole thing between he and my friends. Right as my girlfriends and I got settled on a picnic blanket, Jackson walked up behind me with roses and asked me to marry him. I was so surprised, I nearly passed out! Ultimately, it was perfect, and I was so grateful to have my dearest friends there to celebrate with us afterward.”

The venue and theme

“We both adore the love story in the Disney/Pixar film Up!,” Holly says, “and we decided to loosely base our theme around it. To do so, we incorporated lots of colors, balloons, and heirlooms.”

The event was held in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, at a lovely local hotel and spa. The ceremony took place in an adjacent quaint, lovely stone church that seated 100 guests. Holly and Jackson walked down the aisle to the song “Married Life” from the Up soundtrack. To top off this fun theme, the pews were lined at the edges with festive balloons for the service. After the ceremony, the guests each took one balloon as they left, and released them as Holly and Jackson exited the church as husband and wife.

Holly goes on to say, “Part of our favors included grape soda bottle caps—another nod to the movie. We also had framed photos of family weddings going back a few generations on a mantel in the ballroom to honor relatives and really incorporate an intimate feel. I also collected antique plates over the course of the year, so each place setting at the reception was unique. My mom made individual cakes as the table centerpieces, rimmed with fresh flowers. Our wedding cake was topped with the words ‘You are my greatest adventure.’ It was a magical day that I’d love to relive over and over!”

The dress

“I wasn’t sure exactly what look I was going for when we first went dress shopping,” Holly says. “In fact, my mom and sister took me to VOWS simply because we were in Boston for a friend’s wedding, and I have always loved the show I FOUND THE GOWN. I had only been engaged a few weeks!

“We had a great experience with our amazing consultant, Georgia. I tried on a bunch of different styles, but nearly cried when I put on my dress (cliche, I know). The gown was called ‘Meadow’ from Christos. It was just the right amount of playful, sweet, and light. I loved the cap sleeves, unique lace pattern, and the full-skirt shape. I couldn’t have imagined anything better! I bought it on the spot. My mom made my veil using the fabric from my aunt’s veil. Everything was perfect!”
