The proposal
In December 2014, Charlie took Stephanie out for a nice dinner on Church Street in Burlington. Church Street is well known for its decadent holiday decor. The entire street is lined with shimmering white lights and at the top of the street in front of the church is a very large lighted tree. On their stroll, about halfway to the tree, Charlie proposed right there on the street! Stephanie says, “The part that usually makes people laugh is that I knew something was happening when Charlie, who prides himself on his great sense of direction, walked past the turn from where we parked!”

The venue and theme
Stephanie and Charlie were married at the Old Lantern Barn & Inn in Charlotte, VT, where they were accompanied by 170 guests. Stephanie says, “Charlie and I have been together for almost eight years. So, to be surrounded by those we love, who have seen our story from the beginning, made us feel blessed beyond words.”
The stage for the couple’s big day was a large, restored rustic 1800’s barn with great views of Lake Champlain and a stunning scenic mountain range. Stephanie and Charlie, along with their family and friends, loved the romantic, open-concept feel, adorned with many small, soft white lights throughout.
Stephanie goes on to say, “My bridesmaids wore beautiful knee-length dresses with a mesh-overlay and sheer one-shoulder strap that truly looked beautiful on all four of them. My maid of honor was in a wine-colored dress, and the other ladies in medium gray dresses. Light pink flowers in mason jars made the centerpieces atop wooden stands, complemented by wine-colored napkins folded pocket-style. The night was filled with everything you dream of in a wedding—good people, delicious food and beverages, lots of dancing, a fun photo booth for good documentation, and a spectacular sunset. And, of course, finally being married to the love of my life was the best part.”

The dress
Stephanie recalls, “I have always been mildly obsessed with weddings. After seeing numerous episodes of I Found the Gown, I knew VOWS was where I would find my dress. For months and months I had stalked the website, checking the latest inventory, and saving my favorites. When my appointment day finally came, it was even better than I imagined! We arrived at the store and were able to grab a handful of dresses. My consultant was Allison. She was so incredibly nice and she kept at an arm’s length, inserting her opinion and knowledge at appropriate times. She did a great job at reading the crowd I had brought with me. Every dress I tried on, even with a modest budget, surpassed my expectations.
The final decision was easy, though. I chose a beautiful dress from Allure’s Romantic line. It was a classic A-line with tulle skirt, a lace bodice with sheer sleeves, and a detailed lace back that I didn’t know I wanted until I laid eyes on it. When it came time to try on a veil, Allison picked the perfect one with little-to-no direction. I was so impressed and knew my dress wouldn’t be the same without it! Thanks, VOWS, for your contribution in making our dreams come true!”
